Our recent barrel pick at Bardstown Bourbon Company brought together a group of whiskey geeks on a mission to find something special. This time, we were tasked with selecting a 6-7 year rye barrel finished in toasted cherry wood and oak barrels. The stakes were high, but the reward was even higher!
After tasting through several impressive options, one barrel stood out—a 6+ year rye, proofing around 119, that had everyone nodding in agreement. The initial palate gave off bourbon vibes, rich and smooth, but it didn’t take long for the classic rye spice to kick in, delivering a long and satisfying finish. The toasted cherry oak notes were unmistakable, offering a depth of flavor that was further complemented by a sweet, candy cherry aroma on the nose.
It was a perfect balance between the richness of bourbon and the boldness of rye, making this selection one that we knew would resonate with our community. Another unforgettable experience in the books, and we can’t wait to share this bottle with everyone!
